Napa Valley College Garden Fall Season 2011

Oh Harvest, don’t you just love this time of year? All the veggies ready to be picked! I had the pleasure and honor to be asked to take pictures for my school’s community garden. I truly enjoy having this resource to enjoy and be a part of. Thanks Jen and Julio for all your hard work!

Mark & Caitlin’s Wedding

What a stunning wedding for two of my dearest friends. It was such a joy being able to photograph some of this event (I was not the official photographer.) It was such a fun day getting to see old friends and celebrating with Mark and Caitlin.

Bear, the puss in boots.

•July 10, 2011 • 2 Comments

This just so happens to be my very best friend, Natalie’s, cat named Bear. We stayed up super late working on a costume for her to wear to the Harry Potter premier and while we were laughing hysterically out of sleep deprivation, Bear was nice enough to pose for me. I think the photographs have a very “puss in boots” quality to them. I’ll let you be the judge on this one. Happy photo viewing.

The Lilly

I have a silent love of lilies. They grow on the campus of my school and some days I pick one and carry it around as a constant reminder of the beauty of God. On this particular day, I decided to take this concept and perhaps suggest that you can make anything beautiful if you think about it in the right light. Enter the faucet behind the viticulture building. See if you can spot the ants on the flower. Enjoy!

Legion of Honor

So I went to the Legion of Honor in San Francisco. Oh my goodness…. my mouth must have been hanging open the whole time because it is so beautiful. I am in love with a museum! I literally wanted to move into the room with the clock & green bench. Magnificent!

Paris’ Shoes

These are Bente’s lovely Paris Hilton shoes. The lighting and complementary colors were absolutely magnificent when she set them down on this chair in her kitchen and I could not pass up the opportunity to take a picture of it. She was making fun of me the whole time, but I loved it so much. Thanks for letting me take pictures of your shoes, dear!

Bente & Morgan

•June 20, 2011 • 2 Comments

I wanted to post a few pictures from my first engagement shoot. Bente and Morgan were such a fun couple to shoot, and we were laughing the whole time. Our friend Jessica was nice enough to hold fill cards for me per my photo mentor, Zack Pert’s suggestion (Zack is seriously amazing sauce and if I’m your muse you get to be my mentor!)

Under a tree.

•June 20, 2011 • 2 Comments

I like to start my day off by sitting under a tree contemplating life and praying. I figured that starting my new photo blog off by sitting under a tree, metaphorically, would give you all a small taste of what’s to come. I have a ton of photo shoots that I have been dying to post somewhere other than my old class blog for my photo 120 class (which can be viewed at the following: http://www.carlygrote.wordpress.com) so stay tuned for that.
First off, let me just say, Facebook is pretty lame for posting pictures. Your friends can scroll through them and they may “like” them or leave a comment and then move on to the next one, but there is just something so amazing about really being able to sit and contemplate a photograph. So, I challenge you to sit and contemplate, not only the photographs you find here, but any photograph you see from now on, even the photograph in your living room of you and your family. Ponder what that moment was all about, what it could mean, and what it does mean. What does the photograph make you feel.

And without further adieu, I present Under a Tree, a two photo set of self portraits. Enjoy.
